Born in 1965, Laurens van den Acker studied in the Netherlands, earning a Master of Sciences in Industrial Design from the Delft University of Technology. He focused on automotive design in 1993, working at Audi, Ford and Mazda in Germany, the United States and Japan. He returned to France in 2009 to take the helm of Groupe Renault’s Design Department. His first ambition was to build an attractive, powerful and coherent range of vehicles to boost the image of the Renault brand and its sales performance.

He expressed his vision through the creation of six concept cars symbolizing the diversity of the Renault range. Under his influence, the teams at the Design Department renewed the entire range between 2012 and 2016.

In 2016, design became the main selling point of Renault products. Talisman, the D-segment premium saloon, was voted “Most Beautiful Car of the Year” by the general public at the International Automobile Festival. Subsequently, TreZor, a concept-car revealed at the Paris Motor Show, was awarded three European prizes. Laurens van den Acker himself has won the International Automobile Festival and GQ France awards and the “2016 Designer of the Year” prize from Autocar. Under his leadership, the Groupe Renault Design Department now comprises six creation centers worldwide and works with state-of-the-art design and digital visualization resources.

Laurens van den Acker also oversees the design development of the group’s three other brands, Dacia, Renault Samsung Motors and Alpine.

Laurens van den Acker is a member of the Renault Group’s Board of Management.
