Chennai Plant
Located in India’s leading automotive manufacturing hub, the Chennai plant was incorporated in 2008 as the first manufacturing plant for the Renault Nissan Alliance producing cars and powertrains.The plant has produced over 2.8 million vehicles and over 4.6 million powertrain units for Renault and Nissan for India and export markets around the world. Since July 31, 2025, the Chennai plant has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Renault Group.

Environment
The Chennai plant has been certified water positive in 2024 and 2025 by DQS based on audits confirming to ISO 14046, ISO 46001 and AWS (Alliance for Water Stewardship) standards. The plant has an in-house solar power plant with a 2.2 MW capacity with scope for further increase of capacity.
Quality
Quality is a top priority for the Chennai plant as it works to deliver vehicles that are in line with the aspirations of customers in India and other global export markets. Every vehicle and powertrain manufactured at the Chennai plant undergoes hundreds of rigorous quality checks before being handed over to the customer.

Chennai plant receives Water Positive certification for second year in a row
For the second year in a row, the Chennai plant has received Water Positive certification from DQS, an international certification agency. The plant has made significant strides to reduce and conserve fresh water over the years. The plant has significantly reduced freshwater dependency by meeting 90% of industrial water needs through rainwater harvesting and over 75% of the water used daily at the plant is recycled. The plant is also working closely with local communities to rejuvenate local water bodies to support water conservation. The plant first received Water Positive certification in February 2024.
