Renault Group, a partner of the Week of Sound by Unesco

Sound plays a major role in the motoring experience: it can be a vector of information, a nuisance when it is too loud or of mediocre quality, or a source of pleasure and an expression of personality. With the electric vehicle, automotive sound is reinvented: it offers new opportunities in terms of sound environment, musical listening quality and sound design. nTo illustrate its commitment to sound as applied to the automobile, Renault Group is a partner of UNESCO’s Sound Week and is organizing a conference-debate on ‘Sound and the electric vehicle’ on 16 January 2024 in Paris.

Renault Group's commitment to sound covers several aspects. First and foremost, the control of noise pollution to limit auditory fatigue for both the occupants of the car and the people around them. In 2001, the Group won the Golden Decibel award for exceeding regulatory requirements and reducing the external noise emitted by Vel Satis by 3 decibels. Today, the Group is going one step further and innovating by mapping the acoustic condition of road surfaces in the Paris region - the main source of environmental noise pollution - simply by driving a Mégane E-Tech electric car. This innovation establishes a direct link between road condition, noise and energy consumption.
Sound, a vector for safety
An illustration of the Renault Group's strategy in favor of 'care', sound is also an integral part of passenger safety, a key aspect of the Renault Group's sustainable development strategy. The sound of driver assistance systems (ADAS) and safety alerts is finely calibrated to ensure that it fulfils its warning role without being frightening.

Sound is also audio. The car is an ideal place to listen to music or podcasts. That's why we pay particular attention to the acoustic treatment of vehicle interiors, especially electric ones, to ensure the comfort of occupants, and to the quality of audio systems and settings to ensure that the travelling experience is an exceptional one.
Sound, a vector of emotion
Renault Group is a pioneer in the field of sound design applied to the automotive industry, with the aim of arousing even more emotions and illustrating a brand's personality and identity. This
commitment is illustrated by the cooperation with Ircam, a specialist in acoustics and music research, for over thirty years and, more recently, by the partnership between the artist Jean-Michel Jarre and the Renault brand.
