With a long experience of international markets, Groupe Renault knows all about adapting its vehicles to specific local needs. The Kaptur in Russia is a perfect example of that capability. Built in Moscow, this crossover combines the best of Renault 4WD design with maximum comfort and versatility, features that have already convinced more than 100,000 Russian customers. And the adventure doesn’t stop there: a new version comes onto the stage in June.

The success of Groupe Renault’s international expansion is, in part, due to world models that can adapt to specific markets. One of these is the Captur, which is sold in more than 90 countries around the world, yet which appears in Russia in a different guise and a different name: the Kaptur. So why not Captur, like its French cousin? Good question! For the Russian buyer, the name reinforces three of the vehicle’s key features: quality (Качество), comfort (Комфорт), allure (Красота). It has to be versatile to adapt to the Russian weather and roads – and its 4x4 transmission, high ground clearance and reinforced suspension have won over the locals, with sales of over 100,000 units in the last four years. It is now firmly in the Top Ten of crossovers in Russia, Groupe Renault’s second biggest market in terms of volume.

“IT’S A NEW CHAPTER IN THE HISTORY OF RENAULT MODELS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE RUSSIAN MARKET”

Enter the New Kaptur, a re-styled version that is even more suited to the Russian way of life and the needs of the local market.

As Philippe Thiers, Commercial Director Renault Russia, told us, “the New Kaptur has kept the best of the first-generation model, beginning with its exterior design, which the customers really do like. Just a few slight changes were needed to achieve an even better match with their expectations, so most of our efforts focused on the interior. The New Kaptur has also made a great leap forward in terms of technology and performance”.

YET MORE MODERN AND HIGHER PERFORMANCE

From the design aspect, the New Kaptur remains as true as possible to its Renault lineage. The vehicle sports a radiator grille embellished with chrome inserts, and new colours, including Iron Blue for the bodywork and Platinum Grey for the roof. LED headlights (depending on the version) and 16 or 17” inch alloy wheels complete the list of new exterior features.

The interior? Well, it’s just top-notch! We have used new, more cushioned materials on the dashboard, and the centre console includes an armrest, cup holders and, as of now, the control buttons for the heated seats (and steering wheel). Ambient lighting, with a choice of 8 colours, lets the driver create a relaxing environment to suit every mood.

The passenger compartment has been upgraded to include the latest technologies. We have added a new 8” touchscreen to run the Renault EASY LINK multimedia system. Plus voice control and support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Yandex.Auto. And in this case, more is more - the New Kaptur comes equipped with a premium Bose® audio system, a proximity screen, blind spot detection and remote starting for the Renault Start engine.

Meanwhile, under the bonnet, you’ll find a turbocharged TCe 150 petrol engine, the result of a collaboration between the Alliance and Daimler, coupled to a new-generation X-Tronic automatic gearbox.

With its high ground clearance, its excellent angles of attack and exit and its 4-wheel drive, the New Kaptur offers unrivalled driving pleasure, whatever the terrain it has to tackle in the world’s largest country.
