The Renault Scenic Vision concept car is here to inspire the worlds of today and tomorrow through the strong environmental and societal it embodies. Values that are at the heart of its origin. Unique, singular, distinctive, it paves the way for mobility that is more sustainable, safer, and more inclusive. But does one design a vehicle without (first) thinking about what it will look like? Gilles Vidal, Renault Design Director, sheds light on a new way of designing cars.

This is a unique concept car because of its design, its features, but above all because of the sustainable development values it embodies. How did you come up with the Scenic Vision?

The Renault Scenic Vision changed the way we designed cars. This concept car is not a creative spark brought to life, it is the product of a conceptual methodology based on three major pillars: the environment, safety, and inclusion. It's interesting to see to what extent the new approach fed into our creativity and dictated certain aesthetic choices and not the other way around.
This concept car is unique in just how realistic its features are.

Renault Scenic Vision paves the way for mobility that is more sustainable, safer, and more inclusive

How do the exterior and interior designs of the concept car pave the way for future Renault models?

Its design thus gives insight into the future Renault vehicle line-up. The exterior silhouette reflects the shape and style of a new all-electric family model that will hit the market in 2024, while the passenger compartment gives a peak into the future of Renault interiors. True to its DNA, the Scenic Vision is part of the ‘cars for living’ tradition. This concept car also charts a new course for the Renault, one towards mobility that is more sustainable, safer, and more inclusive. Its style reflects the brand’s values: altruistic, dynamic, and humanist. As such, we gave it generous, inviting, shapely curves. However, we also wanted to push the design far into the future, which is why we mixed in sleek, structured lines and high-tech detailing. Therefore, in combing our heritage with a more incisive, assertive approach, we have devised a new visual language for the brand. The design on the interior paves the way for new opportunities, where interactions with the vehicle will be instinctive, perfectly natural, each useful feature in its logical place. This form adaptive intelligence is exemplified by the drastic changes made in terms of architecture and technology that have transformed the onboard experience.

The Renault Scenic is a ‘car for living’ par excellence. Which design features showcase the car’s cultural legacy?

A ‘car for living’ is a car that is focused on its users and their interactions. A car that should offer the best in terms of intuitive design, user friendly features, and services. A car for living is practical and smart. This is exactly what we have done with the Renault Scenic Vision. Scenic is not just a silhouette, it is a function, it is life on board. That is why the Scenic Vision has a unique shape; it is not a minivan, nor an SUV.
