At the end of November, the 500,000th second generation Duster rolled off the production line at the Dacia plant in Pitesti, Romania. A symbolic milestone for this benchmark industrial complex which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary only last year.

At the end of November, the Dacia plant in Pitesti passed the half-million mark for production of the New Duster. This landmark figure attests to the commercial success of this icon, the second generation of which was launched two years ago. A figure which also demonstrates the productivity at our plant in the very heart of Romania. Every day, 1,400 vehicles roll off its production lines, including around 1,000 Dusters. Since 2010, 1.7 million models of this Romanian-built vehicle have been sold in 44 countries around the world.

When the 500,000th Duster, a 4x4 Prestige 1.3 TCe 150 with fusion red bodywork, rolled off the production line last month, it was an emotional moment for the Pitesti industrial complex. Before delivery to its new French owner, it was photographed surrounded by employees and the plant director.

Valued for its exterior and interior design, the Duster is a cause for national pride in Romania. Voted Car of the Year 2018, it is the country’s best-selling SUV, and the model with the highest level of sales after the Dacia Logan. The commercial success of the Duster extends beyond the frontiers of the country of its birth. It is a world model. Its sales keep the Pitesti site working at full capacity. 90% of vehicles produced are destined for export.

Pitesti Plant: production excellence, Romanian-style

The Pitesti industrial complex is located in the centre of the country. With its 50 years in operation, its 288 hectares and its 12,000 employees, it acts as a benchmark site for Romania. It houses various units (bodywork, assembly and mechanical, chassis), a foundry and a logistics platform. It manufactures the Sandero, the Logan, the Logan MCV (estate) and the Duster, with the Renault or Dacia badge, depending on the model and the country of destination.

New Duster: now even more appealing

Duster was re-styled in 2017. Although everything has changed, it has kept the qualities of its older brother, including the same affordability. The exterior styling is more assertive, with a new light signature (LED) front and rear, and more accentuated rear shoulders. The interior has been completely re-designed. Quality, comfort and driving pleasure have all been further improved.

Groupe Renault employs 18,800 staff in Romania. It generates a turnover of 6 billion euros thanks, especially, to an annual production of 350,000 cars, 500,000 engines and 500,000 gearboxes. Dacia is a true success story. The brand has attracted 6.4 million customers since 2004 (the year the Logan went on sale). Its models contribute to the success of Groupe Renault’s world range.
