Conserve resources

Preserving resources is a key component of our environmental strategy. To reduce our impact and contribute to the circular economy, we are taking action at every stage in the vehicle life cycle. Our approach involves fewer virgin materials, more recycled materials, and the reuse of parts that are then recycled in a closed loop. This is part of our decarbonisation plan.

A strategy comprising 3 stages

Developping several loops for recycling materials

We have developed several loops for recycling materials from production offcuts or end-of-life vehicles and reusing them to build new cars. Here are a few examples:

Aluminium Recycling

Through partnerships with our aluminium product manufacturers, aluminium offcuts from the press shops can be used to make the opening panels of new vehicles, such as Mégane E-Tech Electric. Working through the Future is NEUTRAL and its subsidiaries – Indra and Gaia – we are also able to reuse aluminium from end-of-life vehicles or bodywork parts from garages.

Textile recycling

We began using 100% recycled textile fibres from seatbelt offcuts and plastic bottles on ZOE in 2019. Today New Scenic E-Tech Electric includes these textiles on the Techno and Esprit Alpine trim levels.

Plastic recycling

Through Gaia, a subsidiary of The Future is NEUTRAL, Renault Group is able to recover polypropylene from end-of-life vehicle bumpers to manufacture the plastic used in bumpers and wing trim, on the outside, and in dashboards, on the inside. Mobilize Duo and Bento include 60% of recycled plastic on the outside, of which half from end-of-life vehicles.

Doing more with less

Renault Group's circular economy strategy relies on its entity specializing in the automotive circular economy – The Future is NEUTRAL, co-owned with SUEZ – and its dedicated industrial sites, the Refactories, located in France, Spain, and Turkey.
