The Future is NEUTRAL, innovating in the circular economy

Owned by Renault Group and Suez, The Future Is NEUTRAL is the first circular economy automotive company in Europe, serving all players in the automotive industry with a comprehensive offering: recycled materials, reused parts, and responsible end-of-life treatment services for cars and batteries. Through its operating subsidiaries and partners, the entity acts on the entire vehicle lifecycle: supply, production, usage, refurbishment, and end of life. The Future Is NEUTRAL develops a closed-loop circular economy on an industrial scale, from car to car.

“In the automotive sector, the first under-exploited resource is the car itself, which is made up of over 85% of metal and plastic. The Future Is NEUTRAL provides the expertise necessary to convert this potential into new growth drivers. Our ambition is to support industry players in moving towards resource neutrality and extracting the greatest possible quantity of materials from each vehicle in order to manufacture new models.”

Discover the missions of The Future is NEUTRAL

Although cars are 85% recyclable, no more than 30% of the materials used in production are currently recycled.

How can we increase this figure? How can we limit resource extraction, prevent the depletion of deposits,
and reduce logistical complexity while also decreasing our environmental impact?

This is the mission of The Future is NEUTRAL.

The activities of The Future Is NEUTRAL

The Future Is NEUTRAL is committed to limiting the raw material requirements of the automotive industry throughout the vehicle life cycle, from production to recycling. The company is able to source parts and materials for the automotive industry from the 11 million cars that reach the end of their service life every year in Europe, as well as from industrial scrap and offcuts.

Procurement

Working with The Future Is NEUTRAL, car manufacturers and their suppliers are able to include recycled materials in the production of new cars and parts. Recycled in a closed loop from end-of-life vehicles, these materials include plastic, copper, platinum, rhodium and palladium, through our subsidiary GAIA. In the future, nickel, cobalt and lithium will also be recycled to make lithium-ion batteries. Steel and aluminium are recycled from production offcuts through the subsidiary Boone Comenor Metalimpex.

Usage

The Future Is NEUTRAL extends the life of cars. Our subsidiary Gaia repairs electric vehicle batteries and supplies repaired, refurbished, or remanufactured parts, such as combustion, electric and hybrid engines, as well as electronic parts such as navigation systems, with the support of experts from The Remakers.

End-of-life

The Future Is NEUTRAL, through its subsidiary INDRA, recovers accident-damaged or end-of-life vehicles to depollute, dismantle, and extract valuable parts and materials. Functional parts are given a new life. The materials are sent for closed-loop recycling to be reintroduced into the manufacturing of new cars.
