Revolution

Taking the Group into new playing fields

The new automotive world demands new innovation models, reflecting new value chains and the new vehicle life cycle. Launched two years ago, the Revolution phase aims to position Renault Group at the forefront of these changes, making it a new-generation automotive group.

The automotive sector is in the throes of a major transformation, driven by the electric and digital revolutions, the shift from selling vehicles to selling mobility services and the need to make the industry more sustainable. These major changes are opening up new playing fields for Renault Group:

A team-based organisation

To capture value at source in the future, we have put in place a new organisational model. The Group is now made up dedicated teams, with specialist expertise in each new value chain: ICE, electric, software, new mobilities, circular economy. These teams keep us ahead of the field in each business area, through their talent, know-how and energy. They are all focused on a structurally profitable activity, open to external investments and built around a homogenous set of technologies. Each one has an independent governance structure and clear targets to be met.

We have made the transition from a secular and linear organization with a single value chain –the internal combustion engine – to become a horizontal, open organisation, spanning the entire vehicle life cycle.

Our traditional core business remains the development of ICE & hybrid vehicles for the brands Renault, Dacia and Renault LCV (light commercial vehicles) . This activity is based on the innovative low-emission engine range developed by HORSE Powertrain Limited, a new joint-venture, set up with Geely.

Partnerships to boost innovation

Co-innovation is a central component of our next gen automotive company. To develop innovative solutions and make them widely available, we seize every opportunity to join forces with the best in every field. Through this horizontal strategy, we are able to rapidly develop innovation ecosystems in collaboration with suppliers meeting the highest standards of performance across each value chain. In this way, we cover a wider field of innovation and come into contact with other corporate cultures. This model makes us more resilient in the event of failure and more agile in managing technological volatility. We are able to secure supplies over the longer term while sharing risk and investment intelligently.

Today, we are working with the best, from Google and CATL to Qualcomm and Geely. In total, we have formed over 20 strategic partnerships.

We are active in providing new impetus for the Alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Accelerating the pace of digitalisation

To improve competitive performance and further the process of decarbonisation, we have developed a digital twin of the entire company, a significant step achieved through our strategic partnerships. In total, we have six digital platforms providing new insight for the vehicle production cycle.

We are also using our industrial metaverse to increase the agility of our production system, making it more predictive, proactive and self-correcting, for a better and faster result first time. This process of digitalisation also unlocks countless new opportunities in the use of Artificial Intelligence, improving our ability to plan and adapt in an environment where the pace of change is increasing continuously.

Reinventing our industrial ecosystems

We have launched an ambitious plan to transform our production system at international level. Our aim is to address the challenges of competitiveness, supply, digitalisation, decarbonisation and employability across the industry.

By ensuring a future for each French plant with our new models, we are reaffirming our strong commitment to France. We are transforming our plants in order to build affordable, profitable zero-emission vehicles in Europe. This commitment to competitive local production opens the way for the development of a European electric valley. This will help us to secure jobs and reduce our environmental footprint. Our production in France will have doubled by 2030 compared with 2019.
