The First Model in a New Generation of Light Commercial Vehicles 

With the Trafic Van E-Tech Electric, Renault is unveiling in Hanover the next step in its light commercial vehicle strategy. This new offensive, which will see five new models launched by 2028, forms part of the Group’s futuREady strategic plan and confirms the key role of the LCV business in Renault’s growth ambitions. 

As the second-largest brand in the European light commercial vehicle market, Renault builds on the success of Master, the European leader in the large van segment, alongside Kangoo and Trafic, both of which rank among the top vehicles in their respective categories. With more than 2.8 million units sold since 1980, Trafic has established itself as a benchmark in the medium van segment. The New Trafic Van E-Tech Electric opens a new chapter in this success story. 

More efficient in operation, more comfortable in everyday use, and delivering unprecedented capabilities through its Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) electronic architecture, the New Trafic Van E-Tech Electric represents a genuine paradigm shift for this strategic segment. 

Optimised Operating Costs and Extended Range 

For professionals, driving range and fast charging are critical priorities, directly impacting vehicle productivity and availability. With a range of more than 470 km, the New Trafic Van E-Tech Electric is designed to meet both everyday operational needs and longer-distance journeys. In urban conditions, its range can reach up to 690 km, enabling up to five working days without recharging. 

Built on the new RGEV medium van platform, its 800-volt electrical architecture delivers one of the most advanced fast-charging solutions in the European light commercial vehicle market. The Trafic Van E-Tech Electric can recover up to 280 km of range in just 20 minutes of charging, or even 380 km for urban use, minimising downtime and maximising operational efficiency. 
 

Agility Comparable to a Renault Clio 

The van has also been engineered to make everyday work simpler, more comfortable and safer for professionals. Its outstanding manoeuvrability delivers agility comparable to that of a Renault Clio, with a turning circle of just 10.3 metres, making it particularly well suited to urban environments and tight spaces. 

Driving comfort is closer to that of a passenger car, thanks to an ergonomic driving position and the quiet operation inherent to electric mobility. The objective is clear: to improve working conditions while helping drivers remain more relaxed, efficient and productive throughout the working day.

An Upgradable and Customisable Van Powered by Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) Technology 

The latest addition to Renault’s light commercial vehicle range is also the first van in Europe to feature a centralised and flexible Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture. 

With SDV technology, many vehicle functions are controlled through software rather than dedicated hardware. Thanks to its connected, centralised architecture, the vehicle can receive over-the-air updates, much like a smartphone, eliminating the need for workshop visits. These updates can continuously enhance safety, performance and driver-assistance features. 

SDV technology also enables the deployment of new services and functionalities throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. For customers, this means a vehicle that remains up to date, adapts to evolving business needs and retains its value over time without requiring major hardware upgrades. 
 

Unique Expertise Delivering Tailor-Made Solutions 

Drawing on its recognised expertise in vehicle conversions, Renault now offers three levels of customisation solutions to ensure every light commercial vehicle is perfectly matched to each customer’s business requirements. 

The first level, Converted by Renault, covers conversions carried out directly within Renault’s three French light commercial vehicle manufacturing plants located in Batilly (Master), Maubeuge (Kangoo) and Sandouville (Trafic). 

The second level is provided by Qstomize, Renault’s specialist conversion partner. Its facilities, located both within Renault plants and at Heudebouville, Normandy, deliver a wide range of bespoke solutions tailored to customer needs. 

The third level relies on a network of 300 certified bodybuilders across Europe, offering highly specialised vehicle adaptations. 

Through this unique three-tier approach, Renault is able to provide the most appropriate conversion solution for virtually every professional use case, ensuring customers receive vehicles perfectly suited to their operational requirements. 

Renault Uptimize, Maximising Vehicle Availability for Customers 

Renault has also developed Renault Uptimize, a programme designed to maximise light commercial vehicle uptime and reduce vehicle downtime by up to 50%, addressing one of the most critical challenges facing professional customers. 

Leveraging data generated by the vehicle’s Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture, Renault Uptimize can anticipate maintenance requirements and provide fleet managers with a connected, proactive view of their vehicles. The programme also delivers priority, personalised support, including remote diagnostics, real-time monitoring and access to Renault’s network of 400 Renault Pro+ centres across Europe. 

In addition, a new onboard application helps drivers improve eco-driving performance, extend driving range and enhance safety, while contributing to lower operating costs. 

Renault also enables businesses to develop tailor-made applications adapted to their specific activities, helping them improve operational efficiency and strengthen their competitiveness. 

Designed and Built in Europe 

Designed and manufactured in Europe at Renault’s Sandouville plant in France, the New Trafic Van E-Tech Electric also reflects Renault’s commitment to developing and producing innovative, desirable technology products in Europe. 

The range will offer a comprehensive product line-up, with a panel van version to be launched shortly, followed in 2027 by chassis cab and crew cab variants. This broad portfolio will enable Renault to meet the diverse requirements of the European medium van market and address the widest possible range of professional needs.

The International Van of the Year (IVOTY) award is one of the most prestigious distinctions in the light commercial vehicle industry. Presented annually, it recognises the best new van launched on the European market. The award is decided by a jury of specialist journalists who assess vehicles against a range of criteria, including technological innovation, operational efficiency, safety and environmental performance. 

Competing against six rivals, including the Volkswagen Caddy, the Stellantis compact van range marketed under the Citroën, Peugeot, Fiat and Opel brands, and the Hyundai Staria, the New Trafic Van E-Tech Electric achieved the remarkable feat of winning the jury's vote unanimously. 

With six IVOTY awards won over the past 28 years, Renault now ranks among the most successful manufacturers in the history of the International Van of the Year award. Receiving the distinction for a second time following its first win in 2002, Trafic joins Master, which won the title in 1998 and 2025, and Kangoo, crowned in 2012 and 2022.
