Aubevoye Technical Center: durability at the heart of customer satisfaction

Renault R5

Located in Normandy, the Aubevoye Technical Center is a strategic site for Renault Group. It is here, across more than 600 hectares, that future models of the Renault, Dacia, Alpine and Mobilize brands are tested and optimized. A true training ground for vehicles, the site recreates the most extreme conditions to ensure performance, reliability and durability. Driving rain, repeated impacts, rough roads, temperature variations, water crossings, mountain passes… nothing is left to chance. The goal? To offer every customer flawless quality. Welcome behind the scenes of technical excellence.

A historic pillar of Renault Group’s sustainability strategy

For over 40 years, the Aubevoye Technical Center has embodied the Group’s commitment to building more robust, safe and durable vehicles. It is not just a testing center, but a true engineering laboratory where every new model is put to the test before hitting the road.

Sustainability goal: vehicles that look “like new” after 5 years

In 2020, Renault Group set an ambitious target: to design vehicles that remain reliable and visually flawless after five years and over 60,000 km. This commitment is built on two pillars: mechanical reliability (zero breakdowns) and controlled aging (preserved appearance).

Five years later, the results are in: 80% of durability issues have been identified, analyzed and resolved. This progress is the result of a rigorous method applied to more than 200 critical parts, now integrated into the Group’s design standards.

« Our goal is to offer our customers vehicles that still feel like new after five years of use and over 60,000 km. By embedding durability into the very DNA of our vehicles, the Group is now positioned among the best in the industry and continues to make steady progress. »

A tailor-made test track for proven reliability

Across 60 kilometers of tracks, the Aubevoye Technical Center recreates a wide range of driving conditions: city centers, highways, rough roads, sharp turns... Each prototype undergoes the equivalent of five years of use in just a few weeks.
Dust, flooding, heat, cold… These extreme tests all serve a single purpose: to ensure that vehicles withstand the test of time and the most demanding real-world conditions.

Complementary static and dynamic testing

While dynamic tests are essential for evaluating on-road behavior, static tests allow for in-depth analysis of design, assembly and material resistance. These two approaches complement each other to ensure durability right from the development phase.

Extreme conditions to anticipate aging

In climate chambers, vehicles are exposed to temperatures ranging from -30°C to +55°C. Humidity, corrosion, salt spray, acidic environments… Everything is simulated to test the durability of materials, paint and components over time.

Onboard electronics: reliability under all conditions

The Center is equipped with anechoic chambers to test onboard electronic systems. Lightning simulations, GPS disruptions, electromagnetic waves… Every scenario is recreated to ensure stable connectivity, even under extreme conditions.

Cutting-edge technologies serving quality

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) undergo more than 10,000 "near-accident" scenarios each year. These in-house validations save 25% of the time compared to real-world testing.

Thanks to artificial intelligence and digital twins, the Group can anticipate potential issues before they arise. AI analyzes customer feedback on a large scale to detect weak signals, while the digital twin virtually simulates hundreds of configurations to identify design flaws.

Increasingly reliable and high-value models

The latest vehicles, such as the Renault 5 E-Tech, Renault 4 E-Tech and the Rafale E-Tech 4x4 300 hp, directly benefit from this rigorous approach. They stand out for their reliability and perceived quality, enhancing both customer satisfaction and residual value.

Aubevoye, the technical birthplace of future models

The Aubevoye Technical Center is not limited to testing. It is also the heart of technical validation for projects in development. Engineers, technicians, designers and industrial partners work hand in hand to integrate durability from the design phase, following a co-innovation approach.

Thanks to the Aubevoye Technical Center, Renault Group places automotive durability at the heart of its innovation process. This commitment is driven by dedicated teams, cutting-edge technologies and a clear ambition: to offer every customer a vehicle that is high-performing, reliable and built to last. One step closer to eternal youth for our cars, just like Dorian Gray!
