An electric car would be nothing without a battery, the central element that stores energy and therefore plays a key role in determining range. Renault ZOE, a pioneer in electric vehicles, offers two acquisition options: full purchase and battery leasing.

Buy or lease a battery for your electric car?

When buying a used electric vehicle, the future owner may be offered two options: either lease the battery or buy it with the car. This is a choice that needs to be weighed carefully, as the battery is one of the most expensive components of an electric car.

Buying the battery is the simplest and most economical option for drivers with high mileage plans. Renault ZOE batteries are guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km. For Kangoo Z.E. and Master Z.E., the warranty is for 5 years or 100,000 km.

Battery leasing allows the driver to spread the cost of the battery over time, with a flat rate adapted to your annual mileage. It also offers a lifetime battery warranty in the event of a drop in capacity* and all-round assistance, including power failure.

What's more, the battery can be bought back at any time.

The choice is yours: buy or lease!

Battery leasing for electric cars: a range of prices for all uses

If you've opted for battery rental, there are various packages to choose from, depending on the annual mileage required. For example, the Z.E. Flex package starts at 69 euros (for 7,500 km per year), at 114 euros per month (for 17,500 km per year) and the Z.E. Relax package offers unlimited mileage for 124 euros per month

Is electric vehicle battery insurance necessary?

Most insurers now take into account the specific features of electric vehicles, adapting their offer and including new cover. For example, the leasing service is included in insurance contracts: the fact that the battery belongs to the manufacturer, and the car to the driver, is provided for, which facilitates compensation in the event of a claim.

The insurance contract must therefore mention the battery and insure it for the amount stated on the rental contract. What's more, if your insurer has a specific assistance network, it's a good idea to check whether its garages are certified to repair electric vehicles.

* Warranty levels depend on the vehicle model chosen.
